Hiya Love! The word Devotion has been popping up for me all over the place. Have you experienced that before? When you keep seeing or hearing a word or phrase? Well I had a general understanding of the word but I had to look up the definition.
Oxford Languages defines devotion as “love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person or activity.”
Now it really got me thinking about devotion in my own life. Because if you’ve read my posts you will know that when something keeps popping up I’m going to take it as a sign! I started to ask myself where should I be showing more love, loyalty and or enthusiasm? It’s so easy to demonstrate and prove our loyalty to others but where could we show more loyalty to ourselves that would make a big impact? The word had me writing in my little notebook! *title pic*
I’m not talking about the surface level stuff either. The word devotion has a depth to it. Requiring us to go deep within ourselves and do the things that maybe quite challenging for us to do. It’s not easy, it’s not convenient, maybe we’ve not done this before, maybe we feel out of our depth. But that is the whole point. To take us from where we are to an improved situation that’s better for us in the long run.
Where could we be showing more devotion?
- Ourselves + Life (are we devoted to taking care of ourselves intentionally? properly? physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially?)
- Goals (what could we be doing that would take us closer to what we want to achieve?)
- Our families + friends (which relationships require more effort?)
- Other interests ( what do you care about? The environment? Community work? The elderly?)
When devotion shows up more is required of us.
HOW?
By changing our perspective and seeing what needs to be done through the lens of love, intention, compassion, understanding and discipline/consistency. It’s more than a chore or a duty. It’s an act of Love.
And the thing is WE KNOW the answer to these questions. I knew as soon as I looked into the word devotion came up what it meant for me and where I should be showing up more. Always easier said than done. If it was easy EVERYONE would be doing it. But that’s what separates the knowers from the doers. To know something intellectually is one thing; but when that thing drops into your heart space you are inspired to move!
When you do something from a place of devotion it becomes bigger than the act itself; it transcends into something else; something divine that reaches further than you can imagine.
This is my little take on devotion but I’d love to read your perspectives in the comments below!
