None of us are perfect; we know this and it’s perfectly ok; This post is not about seeking perfection but more about identifying what gets in our way of achieving personal success. When you’re not self aware it’s difficult to see the parts you need to work on. We get so accustomed to the way we are and the way we’ve always been, that when aspects of ourselves continue to sabotage our lives, relationships and opportunities we kinda think “Oh well! That’s the way life is!” we accept and become complacent in our own discomfort, chaos and toxicity.
Many of us move like we don’t have any improvements to make and walk around in blind ignorance to the parts ourselves that needs attention and addressing and I get it; self evaluation can be really uncomfortable.
We’ve all got stories and even horror stories from childhood, teenhood and even adulthood where circumstances and other people have caused us some form of offence, hurt, pain and suffering; but at some point we have to take responsibility for the decisions we make and how we choose to conduct ourselves and move forward. This means facing and addressing the root issues that keeps getting in our way.
It can be painful taking the mirror to yourself to see when it’s actually you and not them!
it can’t be everyone else’s fault all the time!
Now this isn’t about self loathing and tearing yourself down. This is self care. Loving and caring about yourself enough to see what parts you need to adjust, improve or simply let go. I touch on this in a previous post.
No-one knows us like we know ourselves. I really feel we all know where we could make changes whether we want to admit it or not. I also feel it’s the effort that’s required of us that makes many reluctant to even bother trying; and also the unknown of the what will be once those changes start to unfold. But if where you currently are is not where you want to be, then moving in the direction of where you desire to be should be enough motivation to start. When you get the ball moving, it may be heavy at first but keep pushing until the momentum starts to build. Once that ball gets going the work becomes lighter and then it just becomes maintenance. Maintaining the goodness in your life just as you would maintain anything that’s of value to you.
We can get assistance along the way with counselling, therapy, mentors, coaches and encouragement from family and friends. But ultimately we have to do the work ourselves so self reflect and BECOME! Become the person you desire to be and live the life you desire to live.
You can do this. Start now and thank yourself later.
Seeya in the next post!
